In English, gaj translates to square yard when used for land measurement. A gaj is a traditional unit, equivalent to 9 square feet, and is commonly used in parts of North India for real estate transactions. While the metric system is now standard, gaj remains a common unit in real estate dealings, especially in northern Indian states like Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
